Commentary
The original oak roof features 2 tiers of wind braces and moulded arch braces. The carved oak corbels were replaced by cast-iron ones in the mid-19th c. by Denzil Ibbetson.

The louvre over the central hearth was removed from the great hall ceiling in the 1950s and is now on display on the upper floor in the room beyond the solar in the E wing. Its original position is still apparent.

The high end of the hall overlooking the street.
