Commentary
The medieval glass in the tracery of the W window probably featured the 12 apostles, though not all have survived intact.

Commentary
Only a partial wall remains at the high end though the bay facing the courtyard is relatively intact. Vestiges of a square Renaissance frame with fragments of a richly carved armorial stone panel can still be seen about 15' up on the wall (Hope, Cowdray 72).

Commentary
The screens passage (8 and 1/2' wide) with a gallery above was formed at the S end by a wooden screen destroyed in the late 18th c. fire. 3 doors remain for the buttery and pantry to left and right with the kitchen access in the middle.

Commentary
The rectangular bay at the high end of the hall facing the courtyard features a tall window with a double series of 3 lights on 6 levels in front and 2 lights at each end. In addition there are 12 lights on 6 levels on the N and S sides of the bay. The window was rebuilt by Anthony Browne or his son but only the base is original now (Hope, Cowdray 70).

Commentary
The beautiful fan vault ceiling of the entrance porch. 'The spaces between the ribbing of the fans are filled alternately with an anchor and a slipped trefoil bearing the initials W.S. The presence of the anchor places the completion of the porch after the year 1523, when Lord Southampton [ie, Fitzwilliam] became High Admiral, while it is not likely to be later than 1530. In the spandrels and bosses, we find Queen Catherine's pomegranate badge, which a favourite of the King would not have used after the divorce question took definite shape'
(Tipping, 'Cowdray' 93--4).

The ruinous E range viewed from the courtyard. The entrance porch and the windows of Buck Hall can be seen at the right.
