Ward of father-in-law Duke of York during minority (1447–23 July 1450); held in custody for causing disorder in the north with Thomas Percy, 1st Baron Egremont, May 1454 at Pontefract Castle, Yorkshire, 24 July 1454; released March 1445; incarcerated Wallingford Castle, Berkshire, June 1455; released by 9 June 1458; held at Berkhamsted Castle Nov. 1458–Feb. 1458/9 after attempting to seize Warwick; principal member of the Lancastrian party; attainted 4 Nov. 1461; fled to Flanders, Aug. 1463; returned to England, Feb. 1470/1; in custody 26 May 1471—20 May 1475; joined Edward IV's expedition to invade France; drowned in Channel on return
