Commentary
The low end is dominated by the 2 massive octagonal speres supporting the roof on either side of the central screen. There was never a gallery.

Decorative quatrefoil panels on the speres complement the similarly patterned wall above the screens passage door arcade. The speres stand 4' out from the N and S walls.

From the collections of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust

Commentary
The N wall and door of the low end are a later renovation during the Victorian era. The length of the first bay has been affected by 19th c. adjustments.

There was no gallery in the hall in any period.

Commentary
The screens passage has 4 doors leading to the kitchen passage, pantry and buttery. A door at the high end in the SE corner leads into the late medieval family rooms, the bower and the solar.

Commentary
A view of the low end and N wall of the hall, with fireplace.

There is also a later chamber window looking down from the ladies' withdrawing room on the N wall by the gallery at the lower (NW) end but this is not visible here.
