Lincoln's Inn
The hall has 5 bays with a modern N wall at the high end. The dimensions given are original (Simpson, Old Hall 35). The hall was lengthened in the early 17th c. by 12' when 2 bay windows were added at the low (S) end modelled on those at the high end. The Tudor screen was removed and a handsome new Jacobean screen possibly inspired by Inigo Jones' design was placed against the rebuilt S wall. There was a minstrels' gallery above the screen passage.
The hall featured linenfold panelling below the windows. A central open fire with a louvre in the roof above was never replaced by a chimney and fireplace along a side wall. The present lantern in Gothic style is 20th c.
Low end doors led to a buttery and pantry with a passage between leading to the kitchen.
