Centuries of demolition and reconstruction make it difficult to trace the original dimensions of the hall. Enough evidence survives, however, to surmise that it was aisled. Although chimneys were later added the hall was likely originally open to the relatively low roof and heated by an open fire.

The chamber probably lay at the S end of the hall.
