4 carved knights are arranged at the corners on either side of the decorative central staircase. The statues and balustrade were originally part of the entrance porch to the Jacobean hall, relocated to the tower before the hall was demolished (Emery, <i>Greater Medieval Houses</i> 531 n. 7).
