Gray's Inn
Description / History (pre-1642)
The hall has 6 bays with 18th c. oak wainscotting. Originally there was a central fireplace with louvre in the roof above. The lantern of the louvre was later covered by an 18th c. cupola.
The S bay was added and the N bay was reconstructed after World War II when the roof was rebuilt following the original design of the 16th c. oak hammerbeam roof. The length of 69' given here was reported by the RCHM, Inventory of Historical Monuments: London 2.53 in the 1930s.
