The great hall dates from the 14th c. It has an open pointed roof, 32.5 ft at peak. On the courtyard side are 4 square-topped mullioned windows with Berkeley rere-arches. The ceiling has eight bays and tiered windbracing. On the E side are remains of 3 large Norman windows (one, at the lower end, blocked to allow stairway to screen-gallery). There is a 15th c. fireplace said to have come from Wanswell Court. The screen, late 16th c., was brought and installed 1923.

The oak doors of the hall have fine examples of linen-fold panelling. Several examples of the Berkeley arch can also be seen on the doors. These are polygonal with four or more straight sides enclosing a cusped inner arch.
