The medieval hall was located at the W end of the S range, with the master's lodge adjacent to the E on the upper storey and the common parlour on the ground floor. The buttery and kitchen were immediately W of the hall. The upper end wall was plastered before 1553 but between 1553 and 1574 the hall was wainscotted, the windows renovated, a triple screen installed at the low end and the old lantern removed (Nelson, <em>Early Cambridge theatres</em> 71). The screens were renovated in 1632.
The dimensions of the hall including screens were 48' x 28' according to Willis and Clark (<em>Architectural History</em> 1.263).
