Nave

St Olaf's Church

Description / History (pre-1642)

The nave consists of 4 bays. The 15th c. Perpendicular S aisle features Cornish granite arcades and 1 pointed arch of Caen stone and the 14th c. N aisle has similar pointed arches of Caen stone in the Decorated style.

The central space is well lit, with good sight lines. A rood loft originally separated the chancel from the nave: a narrow door in the N aisle near the chancel led to the connecting staircase. The N and S aisles originally ended in chapels at the E end.
