The lofty great hall of the first renaissance house was approached at the ground level through a 3-storey porch (dismantled ca. 1600) off the main courtyard. The porch led into a screens passage connecting with the inner courtyard, with a door or doors on the N leading into the hall. The 2 extant doors on the S led into service rooms.
The ceiling of the great hall was at the 2nd-storey level.
