The present 17th c. hall in the central block of the H-plan house is probably the result of successive remodellings of a medieval original: 'parts of it at least had been retained, for, at the north end of the hall ... behind the Caroline panelling, has been found part of the original timber framing, with a doorway still in situ.... This is of 14th-century type, with its ogee head (though in this locality it could be up to a century later); and, being at one end of the dais, will have had a counterpart at the other leading to the parlour wing...' (Hussey, 'Combe -- II' 1556--7).
