The great hall was on the 1st floor of the SE range, approached by external stairs from the courtyard adjacent to Clifford's Tower. Little survives other than the remains of 2 high windows with 2 lights each in the outer S wall.
Further E is a square-headed window that lit the dais. The solar above was reached by stairs at the low end of the hall.
Simpson estimated the internal measurements of the hall but these are impossible to verify now ('Brough-under-Stainmore' 265 ).
