The great hall occupied the 1st storey of the E range above a series of 4 vaulted cellars. Curwen, Castles and Fortified Towers 246, cited the original dimensions of the hall as 56' long and 22' wide.

The location of a large 16th c. fireplace is now exposed in the middle of the inner courtyard wall. The original number and location of windows and doors is obsure now though a number survive of various dates. 2 doors remain at the low end and 2 (1 blocked) at the high end, with another in the NW corner leading into the N wing.

Renovations

Late 18th c. Georgian renovations reduced the former great hall to ground level.
