Located in the E wing of the building, with an entrance door at the lower end from the 16th c. passage looking out onto the courtyard.

The present length is 32' 9'; shorter than the original estimated length of 47'.

The elegant linenfold panelling dates from ca.1535 but is not in its original order or position. The panelling also features busts of the Barton family in bas relief.

Renovations

19th c. The chapel vestry adjacent to the S was created out of the high end of the withdrawing room.

The decorative busts and panelling were removed but restored after the building was taken over by the Bolton Corporation.

The room has been refloored with rough oak boards.
