On numerous sailing expeditions 1585--99; imprisoned in Spain 1591--July 1592. Arrested early Dec. 1615 over suspicion of involvement in the murder of Sir Thomas Overbury and possible treason and imprisoned in the Tower of London 12 Jan. 1615/16 to mid-July 1616
