The Leicester Guildhall is remarkably intact, a late medieval building originally belonging to the Corpus Christi Guild. It was purchased to replace an older town hall in 1563.
The Guildhall has remained a centre for civic activities until the present day. Concerts and other events were scheduled at the time of a site visit in November 2001.
In 1922 the City Council agreed to restore the building, removing unsightly annexes and other additions which masked its original character.
