The oldest section of the Leicester Guildhall is the great hall on the ground level of the courtyard's north range. The gallery and staircase seen here were added during 19th and 20th c. renovations but the hall retains its original measurements, stone floor, timber-framed walls and pitched cruckframe ceiling.

The hall's ceiling rises to 27' at its peak. It could accommodate audiences conservatively estimated at 300.
