Overview

The large public park now known as Quarry Park was formerly called 'behind the walls'; within its boundaries were 2 areas excavated for removal of building stone. The Dingle, or water quarry, is located in the middle of the park, while the 'dry quarry' (the playing place) was semicircular, excavated at the northeast side, adjacent to the wall of the Austin Friary.
