Mayor's chair

Commentary:
The splendid oak mayor's chair, now in the old council chamber, dates from ca. 1450. It was formerly variously placed in the hall. The elephant and castle from the city arms is raised on the right hand side of the back, with 2 lions formerly supporting a crown on the left. The Virgin and child are carved on the left arm of the chair.
