Overview

Located a few miles NE of Ashford and a main route to the coast, little has been discovered about the manor house of the Tufton family.

Performance History

A possible performance venue belonging to a possible patron. Players patronized by a sheriff performed at New Romney in 1561--2; John Tufton of Hothfield held that office in Kent for part of the year concerned.

Current Status

Demolished.

History of the Venue

1540s Manor granted to John Tufton of Northiam, Sussex.

mid-18th c. Demolished and replaced by a Georgian mansion designed by James Wyatt for Sackville Tufton, the 8th Earl of Thanet.

1954 Georgian house demolished.
