Overview
Located in lowlying countryside a few miles E of Warrington on the S side of the River Glazebrook.
A section of the original manor house has been incorporated in the present 2-storey brick farmhouse with an 18th c. extension at the E end. The interior ground plan has been altered over the centuries so the hall does not survive.
Performance History
Possible performance venue. A bearward under the patronage of Sir John Holcroft is on record at Congleton in the late 16th c.

History of the Venue
ca. 1200 Estate granted to Gilbert de Culcheth. First manor house built.
1246 Gilbert's daughter Joan inherited Holcroft Hall and, with her husband Thomas, assumed the surname Holcroft (Riley and Plant, Holcroft 6).
later 16th c. Acquired by Sir Edward Fitton of Gawsworth via marriage with Alice Holcroft. Soon after Ralph Calveley of Saighton purchased the hall and lands.
1642 Owned by Sampson Erdwick.
1652 Owned by John Holcroft.
1680 Acquired by Thomas Tyldesley of Myerscough and Morleys via marriage with Eleanor Holcroft.
18th c. Enlarged and altered.
1761 Sold or mortgaged to John Lloyd.
1787 Owned by Samuel Pool.
1984 Purchased by the present owner's father.
