Overview

Located 6 miles from Chester in lowlying countryside, the early 16th c. timber-framed manor house does not survive. It was built on a quadrangular plan and surrounded by a medieval moat.

Performance History

Possible performance venue. Players possibly patronized by Rowland Dutton performed in Coventry in 1591 and at Smithills Hall in 1587.

Current Status

Demolished.

History of the Venue

early 16th c. Manor acquired by a younger son of Sir Thomas Dutton of Dutton via marriage with the co-heiress of the Vernon family.

by 1882 The 16th c. house had been replaced by a brick farm house erected on the same site (Bennett, 'Hatton' 202).
