Situated in low-lying fenland near the church in the village of Halsall, NW of Ormskirk, near the road from Liverpool to Preston.
The original hall does not survive.
No household accounts are known to survive for the Halsall family, but there is a possible performance payment for Sir Cuthbert Halsall's 'men' at Dunkenhalgh in the early 17th c. If these 'men' were players, they might have appeared at their patron's residence.

early 13th c. Alan de Lydiate (otherwise de Halsall) acquired Halsall Manor via marriage.
1625 Manor sold by Sir Cuthbert Halsall to Sir Charles Gerard.
Early 18th c. Manor passed to Col. Charles Mordaunt via marriage.
By 1769 Large brick house built on the site of the demolished Hall to the W of the parish
church (Baines, County Palatine Lanc 4.266).
By 19th c. Manor descended to the Scarisbrick family.
