Overview

Little is known about the fortified manor house of the Guildford family at Halden Manor, located in the Weald, SE Kent.

The house seems to have been near the site now occupied by 18th c. Halden Place; a defaced stone cartouche of the Guildford family has been incorporated into the 17th c. stable block. The remains of 3 sides of the large medieval moat can still be seen.

Performance History

A probable performance venue. No relevant Guildford household records have been discovered but entertainers under family patronage performed elsewhere in the south-east in the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries.

Current Status

Demolished.
