This late 15th/early 16th c. misericord on the warden's stall in Manchester Collegiate Church was added during the wardenship of James Stanley, the 10th Earl of Derby's brother. A carving of the Stanley emblem of the eagle and child is in the foreground with the lofty doorway of a 3-storey gabled gatehouse to the side, differing from that on the bishop's stall. It may be the postern gate of what is likely an early view of Lathom. To the right of the gatehouse and beyond is another tower entrance and the continuation of the curtain wall. Masons are shown approaching the 8 stairs leading to the entrance (Lewis, 'Lathom House' 156--8).
