Overview

According to John Stow (Survey of London 1.231), Sir Francis Drake's town house in London was near the river on the E side of Elbow Lane in the parish of St Mary Bothaw.

The house is long gone, but is known from an indenture of sale to have been a grand residence, with gardens, cellars, outbuildings and other amenities (Kelsey, Drake 346).

Performance History

Possible performance venue. Although relevant family records do not survive, Sir Francis Drake's musicians appeared in Plymouth in 1594.

Demolished.

History of the Venue

15xx Sir Thomas Pullison, mayor of London built a fine house named The Erber .

1588 Drake purchased a long lease on The Erber.

1593 Lease sold to Alderman John Banning.

1666 House destroyed during the Great Fire of London.
