Commentary
The 1805 plan (unrealized) for restoring the hall includes the following note on the high end: '...the door at the side of the fireplace does not appear to be of the same age with the original building. Enough remains of the ancient roof to shew its general principle, although most of the parts have been of subsequent and very uncouth workmanship.'
