Overview

On the S bank of the River Stour, 3/4 m NW of Blandford Forum

Nothing is known about the original manor house; only the stable block and part of the kitchen wing (inaccessible) survive from the original house. Orig. 18th c. Wyatt house was 1/4 mile further down the hill from the current house.

The present house was built c. 1890.

A co-educational boarding school

History of the Venue

Residence of Richard Rogers (1527-1605), the house remained in the Rogers family until after 1642.

c. 18 acquired by Viscount Portman

1788 former manor house demolished and rebuilt on same site, next to the family chapel (built 1745).

ca. 1890 house demolished to provide stone for addition to family chapel New house constructed approx 1/4 m to the west. The kitchen wing survives, but is overgrown and inaccessible (belfry for rare protected species of bat). Orig. stable block survives, still in use by school.
