Overview
The Talbot residence does not survive, although the remains of a moat, presumably the site of the house, can still be seen in Black Park, 1 1/2 miles NE of Whitchurch.
Performance History
Talbot household accounts for Blackmere record performances by entertainers there in the early 15th c. Entertainers patronized by the Talbot family appeared elsewhere during the 15th and early 16th c.

The origins of the 1st residence are obscure.
1383 Property passed by marriage to the 4th Baron Talbot via Ankaret, 7th Baroness Strange.
15th c. Primary residence of the Talbot family.
1561 The 'late castle of Blackmeare decayed of longe tyme' was demolished apart from the gatehouse and the materials sold by Francis, 8th Earl of Shrewsbury (Bernard, Power of the Early Tudor Nobility 141).
