Overview

Little has been discovered about the manor house of the Abbots of Battle at Barnhorn.

Its location was moved before 1305 from a site to the E named 'Old Town field' to the present site of Barnhorn Manor Farm, a 2-storey house with flint facing and a tile roof (Brandon, 'Barnhorne' 70).

Performance History

One payment for entertainers of the Duke of Gloucester is recorded in the Battle abbots' accounts at Barnhorn ca. 1478--82.

Uncertain.

History of the Venue

before 1273 Barnhorn constituted as a manor, in the possession of Battle Abbey (VCH: Sussex 9.118).

1539 Granted to Sir Anthony Browne after the dissolution of Battle Abbey.
