Inventory taken when Philip Howard inherited the castle included the contents of the great hall: 'Imprimis, Hangings of sundry ancient stores iii peeces. Item, vi tables upon standing tressels, with benches next the wall. Item, one paier of great andyrons of yron. Item, hanging of olde stories vi peeces. Item, ii Turkie carpetts for the round windowe, and one olde one for the other window. Item, one great Turkie foote-carpett under the table, and one uppon the table there. Item, ii Turkie carpetts uppo~ the cubberd. Item, one faire long quishion for the windowe, with my lord of Arundell his armes imbroidered with golde and silver. Item i long quishion of crymson wrought velvet, and one little quishion of the same. Item, one chaire and quishion blacke velvett, fringed with blacke and yellowe. Item, one chaire of blewe velvett. Item, ii long tables of firre uppo~ tressels. Item xvi joined stooles of waynescotte. Item, ii joined formes of oke. Item, i paier of andyrons of brasse. Item, ii cubberds of oke.'
