The late 15th c. hall is reached by an original archway at the SE corner of the cloister. It has 5 bays, each with an original or partly restored 2-light windows on the N and S walls. The bay at the NW end has a 3-sided oriel window. The E wall has 3 original doorways leading to the buttery and the pantry and a serving hatch of similar form.

Tradition states that the linenfold panelling, extending up to the window-sills on the N and S walls and 2 tiers higher at the high end on the W wall, was brought from the Reading Abbey at the time of the Dissolution but in fact it was purchased in London and shipped to Oxford through Henley.

The fireplace is original. The current, low-pitched roof by Bodley is allegedly a reproduction of the original roof, removed by Wyatt in 1790.
