Guildhall
Performance Space: Hall

The Mayor’s Court at the E end of the Guildhall on the upper storey was probably also the space called the 'Free Chamber' where enrollments to the freedom of the city were enacted. The square chamber was rebuilt in the early 16th c. with oak panelling and finials with animal motifs on the lower section of 3 walls. The fine linenfold panelling along the E wall at the dais end is later 16th c.

The central door at the low end of the chamber is a later Georgian insertion. The windows in the N and S walls date from the 19th c. renovation.
