The great hall with a buttery and pantry at the lower end was approached by stairs from the ground level at the NE of the site, probably dating from the 14th c. N and E walls of the 2-storey hall block and the 2 cellars below still exist. The dimensions have been estimated by Curwen, 'Kendal Castle' 94.
