Situated less than a mile from Lathom House near Ormskirk.
Limited archaeological evidence for a 16th c. residence with a moat called Halton Castle is all that remains from the Stanleys' occupation of New Park.
Stanley household accounts for New Park survive for only a short time in the later 16th c. (1586--90) when Henry, the 13th Earl of Derby, and his family were periodically in residence.
All that survives of the building at New Park called Halton Castle is a small square earthwork on Ormskirk Golf Course (<i>Medieval Earthworks</i> 277).
15th c. The Stanley lords of Lathom created a park, called Lady Park or New Park.
16th--17th c. The Stanleys occasionally kept house at a residence in New Park, a 'quarter of a mile from Lathom' (VCH Lanc 3.254 n. 24).
ca.1725 The house in New Park was pulled down, coinciding with the erection of a new building at Lathom House.
