Commentary:

This drawing shows a speculative reconstruction of the Rose Theatre, cut to show the tiers of the gallery and the stage, with the environs of the playhouse and the Thames to the N.

The playhouse structure is polygonal with 3 levels of spectator galleries and a tiring house behind a thrust stage. There is a small roof held up by 2 columns upstage attached to the tiring house and a painting of the heavens on the third level.

The image demonstrates the playhouse's audience capacity with packed groundlings and spectators sitting in galleries in the round.
