The original 15th c. entrance door to the kitchen wing has been blocked and replaced by a 16th c. door. 'It is evident that the front door was flanked by (what were) tall handsome Gothic windows, some twelve feet in height, one on either side' (Bridie, <i>Story of Shute</i> 24--5).
