  • Performance Space Description: Charles Roger, writing in 1853, describes the Corn Exchange as “a large and commodious structure of recent erection, and fitted up not only for the use of the important weekly grain-market, but for the accommodation of public meetings and festive entertainments” (115). Likewise, The Tourist’s Companion Through Stirling (1850) calls the building “spacious and elegant” (25). As yet, little information about the performance space itself has been found.




    Despite the fact that it was not a full time entertainment venue, the Corn Exchange was the only existing place of amusement for Stirling residents during this period.
