<\/b>Musing one time alone,<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> mine eyes being<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> fixed
\nUpon the ground, my sight with gravel mixed,
\n<\/span>My feet did walk without direction\u2019s guide;
\n<\/span>My thoughts did travel far and wander wide.
\n<\/span>At last they chanced upon<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> a hill to climb, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span> 5
\n<\/span>And being there, saw things that were divine.
\n<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 First, what<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span> they saw: a glorious light did<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span> blaze,<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nWhose splendor made it painful for the<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span> gaze.
\n<\/span>No separations nor shadows by stops<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span> made,
\n<\/span>No darkness did<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span> obstruct this light with shade. <\/span> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a010
\n<\/span>This light had no dimension, nor no bound,<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>No limits, but it<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span> filled all places round.<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>Always in motion \u2019twas,<\/span>13<\/sup><\/a><\/span> yet fixed did prove,
\n<\/span>Like to the twinkling stars, which never move.
\n<\/span>This motion working, running several ways, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span> 15
\n<\/span>Seemed as if contradictions it would<\/span>14<\/sup><\/a><\/span> raise,
\n<\/span>For with itself it seemed not to agree,<\/span>15<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>Like to<\/span>16<\/sup><\/a><\/span> a skein of thread, if\u2019t knotted be.
\n<\/span>For some did go straight in an even line,
\n<\/span>But some again did cross, and some did twine. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span> 20
\n<\/span>Yet at the last, all several motions run
\n<\/span>Into the first Prime Motion, which begun.
\n<\/span>In various forms and shapes did life run through,
\n<\/span>Which was eternal, but the shapes were<\/span>17<\/sup><\/a><\/span> new;
\n<\/span>No<\/span>18<\/sup><\/a><\/span> sooner made, but quickly<\/span>19<\/sup><\/a><\/span> passed away, \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>25
\n<\/span>Yet while they were, they did desire<\/span>20<\/sup><\/a><\/span> to stay.
\n<\/span>But motion to one form can ne\u2019er constant<\/span>21<\/sup><\/a><\/span> be,
\n<\/span>For life, which motion is, joys in<\/span>22<\/sup><\/a><\/span> variety.
\n<\/span>For the<\/span>23<\/sup><\/a><\/span> First Motion everything can make,
\n<\/span>But cannot add unto itself, nor take. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span> 30
\n<\/span>Indeed no other matter could it<\/span>24<\/sup><\/a><\/span> frame:
\n<\/span>Itself was all, and in itself the same.
\n<\/span>Perceiving now this fix\u00e8d point of light,
\n<\/span>I spied<\/span>25<\/sup><\/a><\/span> a union: Knowledge, Power, and Might,
\n<\/span>Wisdom, Truth, Justice,<\/span>26<\/sup><\/a><\/span> Providence, all one, \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span> 35
\n<\/span>No attribute was by itself<\/span>27<\/sup><\/a><\/span> alone.
\n<\/span>Not like to<\/span>28<\/sup><\/a><\/span> several lines drawn to one point,
\n<\/span>For what doth meet may be again<\/span>29<\/sup><\/a><\/span> disjoint.
\n<\/span>But this same<\/span>30<\/sup><\/a><\/span> point, from whence all lines did<\/span>31<\/sup><\/a><\/span> flow,
\n<\/span>Nought can diminish it, or<\/span>32<\/sup><\/a><\/span> make it grow. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> 40
\n<\/span>\u2019Tis its own center and circumference round,
\n<\/span>Yet neither has a limit nor<\/span>33<\/sup><\/a><\/span> a bound.
\n<\/span>A fixed eternity,<\/span>34<\/sup><\/a><\/span> and so will last:
\n<\/span>All present is, nothing to come or<\/span>35<\/sup><\/a><\/span> past.
\n<\/span>A fixed perfection; nothing can add more; \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> 45
\n<\/span>All things is it, and itself doth<\/span>36<\/sup><\/a><\/span> adore.
\n<\/span>My thoughts then wondering at what they did see,
\n<\/span>Found at the last themselves the same to be,<\/span>37<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>Yet were<\/span>38<\/sup><\/a><\/span> so small a branch, as they<\/span>39<\/sup><\/a><\/span> could not
\n<\/span>Know<\/span>40<\/sup><\/a><\/span> whence they sprung, nor how they<\/span>41<\/sup><\/a><\/span> were begot. \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>50
\n<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Some say, all that<\/span>42<\/sup><\/a><\/span> we know of Heaven above
\nIs that we joy, and that we love.<\/span>43<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>But who<\/span>44<\/sup><\/a><\/span> can tell that? For all we know,<\/span>45<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>Those passions we call joy and love below<\/span>46<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>May by excess such other passions grow; \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a055
\n<\/span>None in the world is capable to know.
\n<\/span>Just like our bodies, although<\/span>47<\/sup><\/a><\/span> they shall rise,
\n<\/span>And as St. Paul says, see God with our eyes,<\/span>48<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>Yet may we in the change such difference find,
\n<\/span>Both in our bodies, and also in mind,<\/span>49<\/sup><\/a><\/span> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span> 60
\n<\/span>As if we never had been of<\/span>50<\/sup><\/a><\/span> mankind,
\n<\/span>And that these<\/span>51<\/sup><\/a><\/span> eyes we see with now were blind.
\n<\/span>Say we can measure all the planets high,
\n<\/span>And number all the stars be<\/span>52<\/sup><\/a><\/span> in the sky,
\n<\/span>And we can circle<\/span>53<\/sup><\/a><\/span> all the world about, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span> 65
\n<\/span>And can find all<\/span>54<\/sup><\/a><\/span> th\u2019effects of nature out:<\/span>55<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>Yet all<\/span>56<\/sup><\/a><\/span> the wise and learn\u00e8d cannot tell<\/span>57<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
