Sharp atoms make fire<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> subtle, quick, and dry;
\n<\/span>The long, like shafts still into air do fly;<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>The round to water moist (a hollow form),<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>The figure square to heavy dull earth turn.<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>The atoms sharp hard<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span> minerals do make; \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> 5
\n<\/span>Soft vegetables of round atoms<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span> take.
\n<\/span>In animals none singly lie alone,
\n<\/span>But all<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span> four atoms<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span> meet and join as one.
\n<\/span>And thus four atoms<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> the substance are<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span> of all,
\n<\/span>With their four figures<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span> make a worldly ball. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> 10

Thus the fancy of my atoms is that the four principle figures, as sharp, long, round, and square,<\/span>13<\/sup><\/a><\/span> make the four elements. Not that they are of several matters, but are all<\/span>14<\/sup><\/a><\/span> of one matter,<\/span>15<\/sup><\/a><\/span> only their several figures do give them several properties; so likewise do the mixed figures give them mixed properties, and their several composures give<\/span>16<\/sup><\/a><\/span> them other properties, according to their forms they put themselves into by their several motions.
