If all the atoms, long, sharp, flat, and round,
\nBe only of one sort of matter found,
\n<\/span>The hollow atoms must all empty be,
\n<\/span>For there is nought to fill vacuity.
\n<\/span>Besides<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> being several bodies, though but small, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> 5
\n<\/span>Betwixt those bodies there is nought at all.
\n<\/span>For as they range about from place to place,
\n<\/span>Betwixt<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> their bodies there is left a space.
\n<\/span>How should they move, having no space between?<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>For, joining close, they would as one lump seem.<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> 10
\n<\/span>Nor could they move into each other\u2019s place,<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>Unless there were somewhere an empty space.<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>For though their matter\u2019s infinite as time,<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>They must be fixed, if altogether join.<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>And were all matter fluid, as some say, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a015
\n<\/span>It could not move, having no empty way.
\n<\/span>Like water that is stopped close in a glass:
\n<\/span>It cannot stir, having no way to pass.
\n<\/span>Nor could the fishes swim in water thin,
\n<\/span>Were there no vacuum<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span> to crowd those<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> waters in. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>20
\n<\/span>For as they crowd, those waters driven up high<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nMust to some places rise<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span> that empty lie.
\n<\/span>For though the water\u2019s thin wherein they move,
