The square flat atoms as dull earth appear;
\n<\/span>The atoms round do make the water clear.
\n<\/span>The long straight atoms like to<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> arrows fly,
\n<\/span>Mount next the sharp<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> and make the airy sky.
\n<\/span>The sharpest atoms into fire do turn,<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> 5
\n<\/span>And<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span> by their piercing quality do<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span> burn:
\n<\/span>That figure makes them active, active light,
\n<\/span>Which makes them get above the rest in flight.
\n<\/span>And by this figure they stick fast, and draw
\n<\/span>Up other atoms, which are round and raw. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span> 10
\n<\/span>But water is<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span> round drops, though ne\u2019er so small,
\n<\/span>Which shows<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span> its figure to be<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span> spherical.
\n<\/span>That figure makes it spongy, spongy wet,
\n<\/span>And<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> being hollow, softness doth beget.
\n<\/span>And being soft, that<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span> makes it run about; \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span> 15
\n<\/span>More solid atoms thrust it in, or out.
\n<\/span>But sharpest atoms have most power thereon,<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>For cold doth nip it, and heat makes it run.<\/span>13<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>But atoms flat,<\/span>14<\/sup><\/a><\/span> are heavy, dull, and slow,
\n<\/span>And sinking downward<\/span>15<\/sup><\/a><\/span> to the bottom go. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a020
\n<\/span>These<\/span>16<\/sup><\/a><\/span> figured atoms are not active, light,
\n<\/span>Whereas the long are like the sharp in flight.
\n<\/span>For as the sharp do pierce and get on high,
\n<\/span>So do the long shoot straight and evenly.
\n<\/span>The round are next the flat, the long next round; \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a025
\n<\/span>Those which are sharp are still the highest found.
\n<\/span>The flat turn all to earth and<\/span>17<\/sup><\/a><\/span> lie most low,
\n<\/span>The round to water clear, which<\/span>18<\/sup><\/a><\/span> liquid flow.
\n<\/span>The long to air, from whence the clouds do grow;<\/span>19<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>The sharp to fire do turn<\/span>20<\/sup><\/a><\/span>, which hot doth glow. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span>30
\n<\/span>Thus these four figures th\u2019elements<\/span>21<\/sup><\/a><\/span> do make,
\n<\/span>And as their figures do incline, they take.
\n<\/span>For they<\/span>22<\/sup><\/a><\/span> are perfect in themselves alone,
\n<\/span>Not taking any shape, but what\u2019s their own.
\n<\/span>And whatsoever form is elsewhere found,<\/span>23<\/sup><\/a><\/span> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span> 35
\n<\/span>Must take from long or square or sharp or round.<\/span>24<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\n<\/span>For<\/span>25<\/sup><\/a><\/span> those that are like to triangles<\/span>26<\/sup><\/a><\/span> cut,
\n<\/span>Part of three figures in one form is put.
\n<\/span>And those that bow and bend like to a bow
\n<\/span>Like to the round, and jointed atoms<\/span>27<\/sup><\/a><\/span> show. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span> 40
\n<\/span>In those that<\/span>28<\/sup><\/a><\/span> branched, or those which crooked be,
\n<\/span>You may both the long and<\/span>29<\/sup><\/a><\/span> sharp figures see.
\n<\/span>Thus several figures several tempers make,
