Reading my verses, I liked them so well
\nSelf-love did make my judgment to rebel.
\nAnd thinking them so good, thought more to make,<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nConsidering not how others would them take.<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nI writ so fast, I thought if I lived long<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 5
\nA pyramid of fame to build thereon.<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nReason, observing which way I was bent,
\nDid stay my hand, and asked me what I meant:
\n\u201cWill you,\u201d said she,<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span> \u201cthus waste your time in vain,
\nOn that which in the world small praise shall gaine?\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 10
\nFor shame leave off,\u201d said she,<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span> \u201cthe printer spare,
\nHe\u2019ll lose by your ill poetry, I fear.
\nBesides, the world already hath great store<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nOf useless books; wherefore, do write no more,<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nBut<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span> pity take, do the world a good turn,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 15
\nAnd all you write cast in<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> th\u2019fire<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span> and burn.\u201d
\nAngry I was, and Reason struck<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span> away,
\nWhen I did hear, what she<\/span>13<\/sup><\/a><\/span> to me did say.
\nThen all in haste I to the press it sent,
\nFearing persuasion might my book prevent.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 20
\nBut now \u2019tis done, repent with grief do I,<\/span>14<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nHang down my head with shame, blush, sigh, and cry.
\nTake pity, and my drooping spirits raise,
