Upon the hill of sad melancholy,<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nI did a silent mourning beauty spy,<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nStill as the night; not one<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> articulate noise
\nDid once rise up, shut close from th\u2019light<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span> of joys,
\nOnly a wind of sighs, which did<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span> arise\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 5
\nFrom the deep cave, the heart, wherein it<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span> lies.
\nA veil of sadness o\u2019er<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span> her face was flung,
\nSorrow, a mantle black, about her hung.
\nHer leaning head upon her hand did rest;
\nThe other hand was laid upon the breast.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 10
\nHer eyes did humbly<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span> bow towards the ground;
\nTheir object, th\u2019earth, was<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span> in her eyes quite drowned.
\nFrom her soft heart a spring of tears did rise,
\nWhich ran<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> from the two fountains of her eyes,
\nAnd where those show\u2019rs did fall, the flow\u2019rs which<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span> sprung 15
\nNo comfort gave;<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span> their heads for grief down hung.
\nYet did the stars shine bright as tapers by;
\nShadows of light did sit as mourners nigh.
\nAt last the gods did pity her sad fate,
