This lovely sweet and beauteous Fairy Queen
\nBegins to rise when Hesperus<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> is seen,
\nFor she is kin unto the god of night,
\nUnto<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> Diana, and the stars so bright,
\nAnd so to all the rest in some degrees,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 5
\nYet not so near relation as to these.
\nAs for Apollo, she disclaims him quite,
\nAnd swears she ne\u2019er will come within his light,
\nFor they fell out about some foolish toy,
\nWhere ever since in him she takes no joy.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 10
\nShe says<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> he always doth more harm than good,
\nIf but<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span> his malice were well<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span> understood,
\nFor he brings dearths by parching up the ground,
\nAnd sucks up water, that none can be found.
\nHe makes poor men<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span> in fev\u2019rish plagues to lie;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 15
\nHis arrows hot make men<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span> and beasts to<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span> die.
\nSo that to him she never will come near,
\nBut hates to see when that<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span> his beams appear.
\nThis makes the cock her notice give,<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> they say,
\nThat when he rises, she may go her way,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 20
\nAnd makes the owl her favorite to be,
\nBecause Apollo\u2019s face she hates to see.

\nThey shout and hollo<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span> that they\u2019re out of sight.
\nSo doth<\/span>13<\/sup><\/a><\/span> the glow-worm all day hide her<\/span>14<\/sup><\/a><\/span> head,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 25
\nBut lights her<\/span>15<\/sup><\/a><\/span> taper-tail, when he\u2019s abed,
\nTo wait upon the fairest Fairy Queen
\nWhilst she is sporting on the meadow green.<\/span>16<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nHer pastime only is, when she\u2019s on Earth,
\nTo pinch the sluts, which make Hobgoblin mirth,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 30
\nOr changes children while the nurses sleep,
\nMaking the father rich, whose child they keep.
\nThis Hobgoblin\u2019s<\/span>17<\/sup><\/a><\/span> the Queen of Fairy\u2019s fool,
\nTurning himself to horse, cow, tree, or stool,
\nOr anything to cross by harmless play,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 35
\nAs to lead<\/span>18<\/sup><\/a><\/span> travelers out of their way,
\nOr kick down pails of milk, cause cheese not<\/span>19<\/sup><\/a><\/span> turn,
\nOr hinder butter\u2019s coming<\/span>20<\/sup><\/a><\/span> in the churn,
\nWhich makes the farmer\u2019s wife to scold and fret
\nThat she can neither cheese nor butter<\/span>21<\/sup><\/a><\/span> get,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 40
\nAnd then he doth hold up, as they do<\/span>22<\/sup><\/a><\/span> say,
\nHens\u2019 rumps, lest they their eggs too fast should<\/span>23<\/sup><\/a><\/span> lay.
\nThe good wife, sad, squats down upon a stool,<\/span>24<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nNot at all thinking it was Hob the fool,<\/span>25<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nAnd<\/span>26<\/sup><\/a><\/span> frowning sits; then Hob gives her a<\/span>27<\/sup><\/a><\/span> slip,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 45
\nAnd down she falls, whereby she hurts her hip.
\nThus many pranks doth Hob play<\/span>28<\/sup><\/a><\/span> on our stage,
\nWith his companion Tom Thumb,<\/span>29<\/sup><\/a><\/span> the queen\u2019s page,
\nWho doth like piece of fat in pudding lie,
\nAnd<\/span>30<\/sup><\/a><\/span> almost chokes the eater, going awry.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 50

\nPutting the standers-by into a rout,

\nBesides, in many places puts himself,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 55
\nIn bags and budgets, as<\/span>34<\/sup><\/a><\/span> a little elf,
\nTo make his bearers start away with fear

\nIn this the Queen of Fairies takes delight,

\nShe takes her coach and goeth<\/span>38<\/sup><\/a><\/span> on her ways
\nUnto her paradise, the center deep,
