A ship of youth in the<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> world\u2019s sea was sent;
\nBalanced with self-conceit and pride it went.
\nAnd large sails of ambition set thereon,<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nHung to<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span> a tall mast of good opinion.
\nAnd on the waves of plenty did it<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span> ride,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 5
\nWith winds of praise and beauty\u2019s flowing tide.
\nUnto the land of riches it was bound,
\nTo see if golden fame might there be found,
\nAnd thus it swam in a sweet calm of peace;<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span>

\nThe land of happiness she no longer sees,<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nFor then rebellious clouds foul<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> black did grow,
\nAnd showers of blood into those<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span> seas did throw,
\nAnd<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span> vapors of sad sighs full thick did rise\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 15
\nFrom grief of<\/span>13<\/sup><\/a><\/span> hearts, which in the bottom lies.
\nThen fears like to<\/span>14<\/sup><\/a><\/span> the northern winds blew high,
\nAnd stars of hopes were clouded in the sky.
\nDown went the sun<\/span>15<\/sup><\/a><\/span> of all prosperity,
\nReeled in the<\/span>16<\/sup><\/a><\/span> troubled seas of misery.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 20
\nOn sorrow\u2019s billows high this ship was tossed;
\nThe card of mirth and mark of joy was lost.
\nThe point of comfort could not be found out;
\nHer sides did beat upon the sands of doubt.

\nA haven of great France she got into.
\nGlad was this ship that she<\/span>18<\/sup><\/a><\/span> safe harbor got,<\/span>19<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nThen on the river of Loire she straight swam up.<\/span>20<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nFor on this river she<\/span>21<\/sup><\/a><\/span> no tempest feared,<\/span>22<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nBut directly her course to Paris steered,<\/span>23<\/sup><\/a><\/span> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 30
\nAnd in that place she did some time<\/span>24<\/sup><\/a><\/span> remain
\nTo mend this torn and tattered<\/span>25<\/sup><\/a><\/span> bark again.
\nNew sails she made, and all her tacklings fit,
\nTrimmed<\/span>26<\/sup><\/a><\/span> herself fine and gay, respect to get.
