\u2019Tis strange men think so vain, and seem so sage,
\nAnd act so foolish in this latter<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> age.
\nTheir brains are always working some design,
\nWhich plots they dig, as miners in a<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> mine.
\nFancies are min\u2019rals, and<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> the mine\u2019s<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span> the head,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 5
\nSome gold, some<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span> silver, iron, tin, some<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span> lead.
\nThe furnace which \u2019tis melted in is great,
\nAnd motion quick doth give<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span> a glowing heat.
\nThe mouth\u2019s the gutter where the ore doth run;<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nThe hammer which the bars do beat\u2019s<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span> the tongue.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 10
\nThe ear\u2019s the forge to shape and form it out,
\nAnd several merchants send it all about.
\nAnd as the metal\u2019s worth, the price is set;
\nScholars, which are the buyers, most<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> do get.
\nOn gold and silver, which are fancies fine,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 15
\nAre poets stamped, as masters of that coin.
\nHard iron of strong judgment\u2019s<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span> fit for use
\nIn<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span> peace or war, to join up errors loose.
\nThough lead is dull, yet often use<\/span>13<\/sup><\/a><\/span> is made,
\nLike to translators in every language<\/span>14<\/sup><\/a><\/span> trade.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 20

\nYet, joined with silver wits, \u2019t makes<\/span>16<\/sup><\/a><\/span> alchemy.
