If thoughts be the mind\u2019s creatures, as some say,
\nThen, like the rest,<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> they on each other<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> prey,
\nAmbitious thoughts, like to a hawk, fly high,
\nIn circles of desires mount the<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> sky.
\nAnd when a covey of young hopes up springs,<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 5
\nThey strive to catch them with their swiftest wings.<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nThus as the hawk on partridges doth<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span> eat,
\nSo hopeful thoughts are for ambitions<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span> meat.
\nThoughts of self love do swim in self conceit.
\nImaginary thoughts of<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span> praises bait,<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 10
\nWhich baits<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> the thoughts of pride do catch and<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span> eat,
\nThinking it high and most<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span> delicious meat.
\nThoughts of revenge are like to lions strong,
\nWhich whet the appetite with thoughts of wrong.
\nWith subtle thoughts they couch and leap for prey,<\/span>13<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 15
\nBut bloody thoughts carry the flesh away.<\/span>14<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nThe<\/span>15<\/sup><\/a><\/span> spiteful thoughts, like cats which<\/span>16<\/sup><\/a><\/span> mice do catch,
\nAt each<\/span>17<\/sup><\/a><\/span> corner of imperfections watch.
\nWhen spite perceives detracting thoughts to<\/span>18<\/sup><\/a><\/span> speak,
\nIt straight leaps on, no other meat doth seek.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 20
\nSuspicious thoughts like hounds do hunt about
\nTo find and eat the hare<\/span>19<\/sup><\/a><\/span> of timorous doubt.
\nObserving thoughts do smell<\/span>20<\/sup><\/a><\/span> which way to trace,
\nAnd hateful thoughts do follow close the chase.
\nBut thoughts of patience like to dormice live,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 25
\nEat little: sleep them<\/span>21<\/sup><\/a><\/span> nourishment doth give.
\nAnd when they feed, they thoughts of sorrows crack,<\/span>22<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nWhich nuts being<\/span>23<\/sup><\/a><\/span> hard, their<\/span>24<\/sup><\/a><\/span> teeth against them knack.<\/span>25<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nBut<\/span>26<\/sup><\/a><\/span> grateful thoughts on thoughts of thanks do feed,<\/span>27<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nAnd, by their industry, like ants they speed.<\/span>28<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 30
\nBut thoughts of love do live on several meat,
\nOf hopes, and fears, and jealousies they<\/span>29<\/sup><\/a><\/span> eat,
\nAnd<\/span>30<\/sup><\/a><\/span> like as bees do fly on several flowers<\/span>31<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
